'Tis the season.

Hello from my new corner of the world. Moved out of my new studio in town and back into a home studio. Different room in the house this time. I couldn’t find a flow in the new (old) place. I did some work there, but mostly felt bad for not doing enough.

Feelings are information, data, a thing to go on. A well-lit sign pointing you in the next direction. I’m grateful for that. It was a risk taking on a studio space outside of the home. I’d never done that before and I’m happy I did. I learned things and I’m moving on.

I’ve been working in shades of white. Shapes of white, actually.

Color can be too much for me sometimes. Color holds energy and sometimes what you want is a clearing or a good snow.

Art can be that. A clearing, a blanket, a place to rest. I think so many times we come to art and poems and music asking it what it means, but sometimes it’s there to hold space. Like a friend inviting you over for tea.

Here’s a page out of my current notebook.

The color is bothering me, but I love the light. Notice how the shadows cast shapes all their own. The same is true of everything in life. We show up with plans and ideas and paper and pencil, and life is there to add to it - light, shadows - always in unexpected and beautiful ways.

Speaking of light, our tree is up, which feels like a miracle - mostly because the end of the year is always crazy, and then my kid got sick and I got sick and - oh yeah - we’re having our bathroom redone. Our only bathroom! Good times! No ornaments on the tree, but if you look closely at the tv, you’ll see the protective plastic from work being done.

Hey - ‘tis the season for wrapping, right? And we’ll pretend the construction dust is snow.
