New desk, new playlist
Life is full of surprises.
I was in the ER last week. I’m okay.
Among other things, it was a reminder that writing everyday just isn’t possible. Because, as I mentioned, life has its surprises.
And anyway, simply aiming to write daily is good enough for me.
I missed our Group Therapy drop on Friday, so I’m including it today — surprise! I asked my friend, Dustin, who’s been helping me to share out this playlist on Apple Music, to curate the five songs for this week.
They’re magical. I think you’re really going to enjoy them. And as Dustin said, now it’s really group therapy.
I love how you’re shifting your external world to better suit what’s inside and wants to come out, my friend, Gabriela, commented after reading my last post about changing my art studio into one for music.
I hadn’t consciously recognized myself as doing this, but her words rang true.
I posted some items to Facebook Marketplace, including my drafting desk. This desk is precious to me because buying it was one of the first meaningful steps I took ten years ago to support my artist-self.
It doesn’t fit the studio space now, so I’m letting it go.
Meanwhile on Facebook, I came across another drafting desk that would fit a different space in my house. It spoke to me. It’s beautiful. I’m sitting at it now. Another surprise.
It all reminds of artist, Agnes Martin’s, words from her essay, Beauty Is the Mystery of Life:
To progress in life you must give up the things that you do not like. Give up doing the things that you do not like to do. You must find the things that you do like. The things that are acceptable to your mind.
You can see that you will have to have time to yourself to find out what appeals to your mind. While you go along with others you are not really living your life. To rebel against others is just as futile. You must find your way.
Happiness is being on the beam with life – to feel the pull of life.
Yes, yes, yes.
