There's always something to cherish ☔

It's been pouring rain in Ojai for the past 24 hours. Last month we landscaped and half of the new gravel we laid is now running down the street with the rain. I'm okay with it. We need the rain. And I can always buy more gravel, right?
Earlier today, my 11 year old got dressed to play in the rain. She hasn't seen too much rain in her short lifetime and was accordingly feeling inspired. On her way out the door in a raincoat, sweats, slides (and socks, don't ask me why), she said, "We gotta cherish it, Mom!"
She was of course talking about the rain. But there's always something to cherish, isn't there? Even the word cherish sounds cheesy because we tend to devalue the things that really matter. Things like our joy. Beauty. Having fun.
But these things matter. A lot. Especially if you're feeling exhausted lately, like I am. The things that make our life better are things we should linger with a little longer, get dressed for, cherish.
Love to you all - hope you have a happy and healthy holiday. See you in 2022!

Are you reading Ask Polly? I love Heather's voice and realness. Of the newsletter she says "I just wanted to have some fun and foist some of the unwanted advice I’d been rudely pushing on friends and family for decades onto a new set of unsuspecting strangers."

I might as well recommend another email newsletter while I'm at it. The Red Hand Letters by musician Nick Cave is one I just subscribed to. This letter about love is one I found particularly moving. Also this one about Hope & Christmas.
