Be ready to jump! 🗻

"If we listened to our intellect, we’d never have a love affair. We’d never have a friendship. We’d never go into business because we’d be too cynical. Well, that’s nonsense. You’ve got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down."
  Annie Dillard said that. She's a smart one. 

Even though I think of myself as a risk-taker, resistance seems to come to me in the form of fear of not being able to grow those wings. I can jump but will the wings come? I'm not so sure. That resistance likes to get in right where I lack faith. 

But with creativity comes risk. For better or worse, they are bedfellows, amigos. Bringing something new into the world comes with inherent risk. It just does. Risk of reputation, of money, of time, of acceptance.

There have been so many stories of creatives, entrepreneurs, athletes who took big risks that paid off. That makes sense to me. No risk, no reward (right, Seth Godin?). Big risk, big reward. But maybe the biggest risk of all is that there IS a reward. Like, what if it works? What then?

Whatever the case, one thing I know — action is data. If you take one step towards the edge of cliff, you'll get feelings. For me, it's a feeling in my groin (TMI?) because I'm afraid of heights but you know what I mean. Every action has a reaction or whatever. Take that data, reflect on it, and get ready for the next jump!
