Keep moving the pin!
"DON'T LET IT BRING YOU DOWN."
-NEIL YOUNG
Something ironic just happened. I wrote you a letter about set backs and moving the pin in spite of them and then I accidentally deleted it. Just now. That just happened. In the 21st century.
And I feel like the universe is really trying to ram this lesson down my throat. This idea that sh*t happens and we can't control it. And we can get bent out of shape about it, or we can just keep moving in the direction we know we're supposed to go.
So instead of crying, I'm taking my own advice. Maybe I'll recover the letter somehow later, but right now I have work to do and so do you. You guys are nice and I know you will understand. And there is always next week.
Also there is this thing I made:
Maybe you can print it out and hang it above your desk as a reminder to move the pin. Even a little bit. Everyday. Even when you delete that thing you worked on for hours. Inch that stupid pin along. Slowly, surely.
We'll get there. We got this.
I LIKED IT
Do you guys know Nada Surf? I've loved them forever. I saw them Friday night in SF, touring on their new record, You Know Who You Are. Please check the new single, Believe You're Mine.
Poet, Mary Oliver is a steadfast source of inspiration for me. She's given very few interviews over her lifetime, but I got so much out of reading this one with Maria Shriver. It's an old interview, but it's chock full of wisdom. Read this.
Thanks to a good friend, I'm getting caught up on NPR's Microphone Check. I was very inspired and heartened by their recent interview with Terrace Martin, I Believe You Should Be Yourself. All I can say is, listen up.
I'M WORKING ON IT I had a lot of fun working on the web copy for one of my favorite projects, Love Everywhere. Founder, Ashley Reale, has a heart of gold and is sharing that shine with the world and I love it. Check out the site here.
Finally, I have about 10 pages to go to finish my first book of words and drawings! You can read more about where I'm at with the process here and check out an illustration that will be featured alongside one of my poems in the book here.
You guys, thank you for reading, ahh! I'm working to get more consistent about sending out these letters and I think it's really cool you're along for the ride. I mean, really cool.
