Take an object. Do something to it.
"TAKE AN OBJECT. DO SOMETHING TO IT. DO SOMETHING ELSE TO IT. DO SOMETHING ELSE TO IT."
-Jasper Johns
I've been known to say I never want to stop growing. And I don't. But the challenge of a growth mindset is that it tends to lead one on an unconventional path, a path less traveled and mostly misunderstood. One there is not even a hint of a map for.
People talk about the creative idea as something you also need to be able to map out and sell. I'm not sure this is at all possible.
By virtue of what they are, creative ideas are confounding. And might I suggest that this is exactly their point and allure. Not understanding helps us question what we know, pushes us to think differently, generates new ways of being. If creativity suddenly becomes this thing we can describe, pin point, storyboard, make sense of, it looses something you and I both need: mystery.
This is the allure of the unconventional path, the growth mindset. We take our lives and do something to them. And do something to them again. And do something to them again. We become and become, again and again. And we do this in service, not of our selves, but of Mystery.
There are so many things I would rather be than understood. Caught up in Mystery is definitely one of them.

Have you heard Wet? It's been a long time since I had such an immediately love for a band/album. In the iTunes store and/or check out this video for the single "Don't Wanna Be Your Girl".
I'll likely never link to Maxim again, but have a laugh at How to Undress a Woman. Cartoonist, Hallie Bateman, illustrates and is one of my favorites.
Parker J. Palmer is another favorite of mine:
"Every reminder that there will be a last this and a last that — including a last moment — deepens my gratitude for this moment and helps me 'be here now.'" Read more from his latest blog on On Being, The Last Things To Give Up. So good.
